Hotel Sureghes In Ortisei: December 2025 Review

I’ve just returned from our trip to the Dolomites, and my friend and I stayed in Hotel Sureghes for four nights. 

Let me tell you – it was a wonderful stay. The location is almost unbeatable, the rooms are big and exceptionally clean, the food is some of the best I’ve had in the Dolomites, and the staff are all just wonderful. 

There’s only one thing that I would like that wasn’t there – a pool and wellness area, but that’s normal for a 3* hotel. And Sureghes has a wonderful workaround for it.

Anyways, here is my honest review of Hotel Sureghes in Ortisei, Val Gardena.

Hotel Sureghes overview and first impressions

Hotel Sureghes is a cozy 3-star, family-run hotel in Ortisei that feels exactly like the kind of place you want to come back to after a day out in the Dolomites. It has that classic Alpine look , with a relaxed local vibe rather than anything overly polished or pretentious.

We stayed in one of their superior rooms, and the very first impression was how big the room was – you actually have space to spread out, unpack, and not feel cramped. I also had a chance to look into a few of the other room types, and they were all surprisingly spacious too, which you don’t really see that often.

The whole place was spotless, from the room to the corridors, and there was a genuinely pleasant scent everywhere – it smelled more like home than a hotel. I know it’s quite a weird thing to notice, haha, but it was really nice.

And the last first impression was the staff – every single one that we met, from the reception, to the kitchen, to the cleaning staff were nice and friendly. It’s definitely important and makes you feel like part of the family.

Location in Ortisei, Val Gardena

Staying at Hotel Sureghes means you’re in one of the most convenient spots in Ortisei for actually using the Dolomites, not just looking at them.

You’re a short walk from the cable cars that take you straight up to Alpe di Siusi, Seceda, and Rasciesa, so you can have a slow breakfast, stroll to the lift, and still be on the trails or ski slopes early without stressing about parking or traffic.

As for the Alpe di Siusi cable car – you actually see it from the hotel, the cable car station is literally less than 2 minutes slow walk away.

For non-drivers, the location is even more of a win: the bus stop for Bolzano, Chiusa, and the rest of Val Gardena is just a few minutes away, with frequent connections that make it easy to explore without renting a car.

If you do have a car, you get free parking at the hotel and very easy drivability to places like Val di Funes, Alta Badia, Sellaronda mountain passes, and other classic Dolomites viewpoints. So you can mix lift-accessed days with day trips and still come back to the comfort and restaurants of Ortisei each night.

Food

The food at Hotel Sureghes is honestly such a highlight. Dinner is incredibly well made and beautifully presented, with generous portions and different choices each evening, so you leave the table full but still wishing you could taste one more dish. 

The quality is consistently high and some of the best food I’ve had from our half-board stays, and yes, that includes 4-star hotels. Drinks are tasty and fairly priced; and if you want to stay in during the day, you can also have lunch à la carte at the hotel instead of hunting for a restaurant in town.

Breakfast is rich and satisfying, with freshly squeezed juice (we could hear the juicer running from the kitchen!), fresh fruit, cheeses, hams, yogurts, and plenty of sweet options like pastries and cakes. This makes it very easy to fuel up properly before exploring the Dolomites.

The only real downside is that there were no vegetables at breakfast, which might be a small con for anyone used to a more “savory” or health-focused morning plate, but overall the spread is varied and abundant enough.

Hotel Sureghes is also a good fit if you have dietary needs but don’t necessarily need a fully specialized kitchen. The dinner menu typically includes a choice of dishes each evening, so it’s relatively easy to avoid something you can’t eat, and there are usually naturally gluten-free and meat-free options in the mix.

For more specific needs (celiac, strict lactose-free, or vegan), the safest approach is to email the hotel before booking and mention your requirements so they can confirm what they can realistically provide during your stay.

Service

Service at Hotel Sureghes feels genuinely personal in the best way. Check-in is quick and uncomplicated, and from the first interaction you get the sense that the team actually cares that you’re having a good stay rather than just moving you through a process. 

It felt perfectly natural to joke around with the staff both in the kitchen and the reception. Even my friend, who is quite an introvert, felt at ease chatting with them.

The sommelier really knows his stuff and is excellent at recommending wines people will actually enjoy, and at breakfast, the waiters already knew what coffee I like even though the hotel was full.

And also at reception, everyone was knowledgeable about what to see and how best to see it. It includes also the Val Gardena active program – Fabian knew what was happening and when, and could recommend us things that we would like.

Speaking of, Fabian also used to be a ski instructor in Val Gardena, so if you need any help in regards to that, he’s your person.

Rooms at Hotel Sureghes

Rooms at Hotel Sureghes are exactly what you want for a Dolomites base: comfy, bright, and genuinely spacious rather than just “cozy” in the listing.

You can choose between different types or rooms, such as standard/comfort, superior, and larger family rooms and suites. So, whether you’re a couple, a group of friends, or a family with kids and ski gear, there’s a layout that actually works in real life.

Many rooms come with balconies, a seating area. And of course, there are all the practical bits like a good shower, hairdryer, safe, and fridge, plus solid WiFi for planning the next day or working remotely.

Part of the hotel has already been renovated and it shows in the fresher feel and updated which is always a good sign that the property is being actively looked after rather than left to age.

I got to peak in other rooms during my stay, including the renovated part, and let me tell you, they really are great. The family connected room is HUGE, and has 2 bathrooms (one bath + toilet, the other just toilet). So, if you’re looking for a family hotel, Sureghes is up there on the list of my recommendations.

Cleanliness is a real strong point here: rooms are consistently spotless, well maintained, and feel properly aired, with guests rating cleanliness very highly in reviews – which means it wasn’t just my experience that it’s clean.

Our Superior Room

First impressions when I entered the room? “Woooow, this is niiiice!”

The room was huge and bright. There was a seating area with a couch and a little table, a bigger “kitchen” table with seating and chairs, and of course, the bed. It honestly felt like we entered a small studio apartment sans the kitchen.

I was also surprised at how low the noise level in our room was.

The hotel is located just next to the main street in Ortisei, which would generally mean sounds from cars all day and night, but in our case, even with the balcony door open, it was quiet. Full disclosure – we did have a side-facing room, not the Ortisei-facing one. (I would have loved that view, though, haha).

One minus was that in winter, the heating is turned off for most of the night. It was only a problem for us, though, because we were watching movies until after midnight. Otherwise, the duvet is big, soft, fluffy, and warm, so the cooler temperature was not a problem at all.

Extras

Hotel Sureghes also comes with a few really useful extras that make a Dolomites stay smoother and cheaper.

There’s a dedicated ski room where you can safely store your skis, boards, and dry your boots, so you’re not dragging wet gear through the whole hotel and your room or trying to dry everything on radiators. And changing from your cold ski boots to warm normal boots? Heaven.

As part of your stay, you also have free entrance to the Mar Dolomit pool and sauna complex, which is a really cool workaround for Sureghes not having their own pool. And it’s less than 2 minutes walk away from the hotel, so no need to drive anywhere. Perfect for after-exploring relaxations or those bad weather days!

Another nice perk is that Hotel Sureghes is participant of the Val Gardena Active program. That means that many guided hikes (both summer and winter), cultural things such as cooking or woodcarving classes, and activities such as ski lessons, horseriding, concerts, and so on are either discounted or completely free for guests, so you can join organized experiences without blowing the budget.

And, of course, as part of your stay, you get the Val Gardena Mobil Card (transport card) which gives you free use of local buses across Val Gardena for the duration of your stay, making it very easy to move between Ortisei, Santa Cristina, Selva, and nearby valleys without a car. Even if you do have a car, having the card means you can leave it parked at the hotel and avoid the hassle and cost of parking at trailheads and in town

Value

Overall, Hotel Sureghes is way more than worth the price – it’s one of those places that can easily be overlooked if you’re just scanning big-name chains or luxury spots, but the pros absolutely outweigh the cons by a mile.

The staff, the food, the spotless rooms, and that unbeatable location make it feel like such a steal for what you get in Ortisei, especially when you’re comparing to other Dolomites accommodation options at this rate.

I’m already thinking on when we could return here with my family because I genuinely loved everything about the stay, and honestly, for this price it’s a total no-brainer – if you’re heading to Val Gardena, this is your great base without question

Who is Hotel Sureghes perfect for?

Hotel Sureghes is perfect for travelers who don’t need a flashy, full-service resort but still want to feel genuinely comfortable and well taken care of.

It’s a no-frills 3-star in the best sense: you get spacious, clean rooms, seriously good food, and kind, down-to-earth staff, without paying four-star prices for extras you might not even use.

This is the ideal hotel for people who care about value for money, want a super convenient base in Ortisei within easy walking distance of lifts, buses, and the center, and prefer to spend their budget on experiences in the Dolomites rather than on a hotel spa menu.

If you’re happy with a really good, down to earth hotel that delivers on the important things – comfort, service, location, food, and price, Hotel Sureghes is exactly the right fit.

Is Hotel Sureghes Worth It?

I was hosted by hotel Sureghes, so I didn’t pay for it out of pocket, but as I mentioned before, I’m already thinking about going back with my family. So yes, I think it’s worth it.

The location, the service, the food – you get so much more value than what you pay for.

Would I book it as a romantic getaway for a honeymoon or a luxury stay to celebrate a special occasion? Probably not.

But for your “normal” active trip to the Dolomites with family, friends, for hiking, or for skiing, or pretty much anything else? 100% yes!
